Easter Message from Fr. Fabula
Dear Families and Friends,
O Crux, Ave, Spes Unica. Hail, O Cross, Our Only Hope. The vesperal hymn of Passiontide, “Vexilla Regis,” nourishes the Catholic soul with its words: “Abroad the regal banners fly, now shines the Cross's mystery: upon it Life did death endure, and yet by death did life procure.” Our souls and the souls of the students need to feed on these words of the liturgy.
Our Lord’s death on the Cross restored life to the human race. The liturgy tells us so in the Preface of the Holy Cross: “You placed the salvation of the human race upon the wood of the cross, so that where death arose, there life might rise again.” As His disciples, we must carry our crosses daily, in union with His, through our own sacrifices. The paradox of the cross is that by dying daily we will live. To live life to the fullest requires loving with a supernatural love, a supernatural charity. Charity means dying to oneself through self-sacrifice for one’s Beloved. To live life to the fullest we must die to ourselves every day. In short, to live is to die. This is the mystery of the Cross and of true charity.
As we zealously conclude our Lenten practices and enter into the Easter season, may we do so with peace and joy in the victory of Our King. We pray for an increased faith in the power of the Cross, so that we all may enter eternal glory with Jesus Christ.
In the Sacred and Sorrowful Hearts,
Fr. Samuel Fabula
