His Excellency Bishop Bernard Fellay confirms 85 in Phoenix

The coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for any foreigners to enter the country for some time, which put confirmations in the United States quite behind.  When finally Bishop Fellay was able to get clearance to enter the country, a slew of confirmations was organized quickly.  Phoenix drew one of the first slots.  Scrambling for two weeks, the ceremonies were rapidly prepared, and Our Lady of Sorrows was blessed to receive His Excellency for this beautiful sacrament on  February 7th.

Bishop Fellay offered the Sung Mass for the parish in the morning, and then in the afternoon, the confirmation ceremony was held.  85 souls received the graces of this sacrament.   After relating the history of the mystery of salvation, the bishop spoke in his sermon of the spiritual perfection that this sacrament endows upon the soul, strengthening it as a soldier of Christ, and preparing it to even suffer for the sake of Christ.

Following the ceremony, a banquet was held outside, since Phoenix remained immune from the frigid winter blast engulfing the rest of the country.  Many faithful had the opportunity to greet Bishop Fellay, who even performed some magic tricks for a group of fascinated children.  The scene reminded one of the words of Our Lord: “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14).

Before he left, His Excellency offered the low Mass of a bishop for the school.  This mass was formerly the only low Mass allowed to be offered by the bishop.  In it the bishop is assisted by two chaplains, who are either deacons or priests, and also two acolytes.  This special ceremony was one more blessing in having the bishop visit.
