Advent Message from Our Principal

Source: Our Lady of Sorrows Academy

Dear Families and Friends,

Advent, traditionally, has three meanings: Our Lord’s coming in the Flesh, Our Lord’s grace coming into a soul, and the second coming of Our Lord in judgement. Advent at the academy is not Our Lord in Judgement, even if the children’s eyes sometimes perceive the principal’s presence in class as the second coming! It is also not Our Lord’s nativity which we celebrate at Christmas.

Delightedly we see daily, through the faith’s lenses, the interaction of Our Lord Jesus Christ with the children’s souls. He touches their souls with His graces, forming them into His image and likeness. As Advent arrives, the teachers revisit with the children the reality of the historical coming of the Redeemer in the flesh. This reminder helps them focus on His coming to their souls which, in turn, prepares them for meeting Him with peace at the second coming in judgement.

The advent wreath, advent hymns, nativity scenes, and more are among some of our physical reminders. The most important, however, are the spiritual activities of prayer, sacrifice, and silent meditation in “preparing the way of the Lord.” We hope the activities of the academy reflect the work in the home this advent season as all of us prepare for the coming of Christ, helping the children’s failings to decrease and Our Lord’s grace to increase in them.

Your families are in my prayers.

In the Sorrowful Heart of Our Mother,
Fr. Samuel Fabula
Principal
